Man City's title hopes fade as West Ham earns draw

Manchester City's Premier League title challenge suffered another blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened West Ham United. With Arsenal winning earlier in the day, the gap at the top has stretched to nine points. It caps a miserable week for Pep Guardiola's side following their 3-0 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.

West Ham 1-1 Manchester City: Title race slipping away

Manchester City arrived at the London Stadium knowing they needed to respond after Arsenal's earlier victory. Instead, they dropped more crucial points against a West Ham side fighting for survival.

The suspended Pep Guardiola watched from the stands as his team dominated possession – at one stage holding 86 percent of the ball – but struggled to break down Pepijn Lijnders' well-organised defence.

Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush started together in attack, but neither could find the breakthrough. It was Bernardo Silva who opened the scoring on 31 minutes with a moment of brilliance, spotting goalkeeper Mads Hermansen off his line and lobbing him beautifully from distance.

The lead lasted just four minutes. From a corner, Gianluigi Donnarumma came for the ball and missed it completely, allowing Dinos Mavropanos to head against the crossbar and in. Referee Michael Oliver's watch confirmed the ball had crossed the line.

Antoine Semenyo came close to putting West Ham ahead before half-time, his shot flashing just past the post. City went into the break frustrated, already aware that Arsenal had won.

Second half: City push but can't find winner

Lijnders' side sat deep in the second half, determined to protect their point. City threw on fresh legs, with Rayan Cherki and Jérémy Doku replacing tired bodies around the hour mark.

Hermansen made a fine save to deny Haaland, who looked increasingly frustrated as the minutes ticked away. Tijjani Reijnders was introduced for Silva as City searched desperately for a winner.

The Dutch midfielder almost delivered a dramatic moment, striking a curling free-kick that crashed against the crossbar with Hermansen beaten. Phil Foden went close, and in the dying seconds Marc Guéhi fired over from close range.

Four minutes of stoppage time came and went, but City couldn't find a way through. The final whistle sparked wild celebrations from the West Ham supporters, whose team earned a precious point in their relegation battle.

Title race: Arsenal pull clear

Pos Team P Pts Gap
1 Arsenal 31 70
2 Manchester City 30 61 -9 (game in hand)

Even if City win their game in hand, they would still trail Arsenal by six points with seven matches remaining. The title is Arsenal's to lose.
