Weekend results in European competitions
Another dramatic weekend across Europe's top leagues saw Bayern Munich march towards the title, Real Madrid escape with a last-gasp winner, and Lamine Yamal produce another moment of genius to keep Barcelona on top of La Liga.
Bayern Munich: Cruising Towards the Title
Vincent Kompany's Bayern Munich took another giant step towards an early Bundesliga title with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach at the Allianz Arena. The win extends their lead over nearest challengers Borussia Dortmund to fourteen points.
Remarkably, Bayern achieved this dominant display without star striker Harry Kane, who was sidelined through injury. Luis Díaz opened the scoring after 30 minutes with an acrobatic volley following a delightful chip from Leon Goretzka. Konrad Laimer doubled the advantage before halftime, finishing off a rapid counter-attack after winning possession himself.
The only concern for Bayern was goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who was forced off at halftime on his return from injury, replaced by Jonas Urbig.
After the break, Gladbach's troubles deepened when captain Rocco Reitz was sent off for fouling Nicolas Jackson in the box. Jamal Musiala converted the resulting penalty. Jackson then added a fourth after good work from teenager Lennart Karl.
The match also saw 17-year-old Maycon Cardozo make his Bayern debut, while Gladbach's Wael Mohya (17) became the youngest goalscorer in Bundesliga history with a late consolation, taking the record from Karl.

Real Madrid: Valverde to the Rescue
Real Madrid were in full crisis mode heading into their match at Celta de Vigo. Back-to-back league defeats against Osasuna and Getafe marked the first time in seven years that Los Blancos had lost consecutive La Liga games.
The pressure was on, and Álvaro Arbeloa's side started brightly. Aurélien Tchouaméni headed Real in front after eleven minutes, but Borja Iglesias levelled for the hosts shortly after. Despite sustained pressure in the second half, Real struggled to create clear chances, while Celta's veteran Iago Aspas struck the post with a clever effort.
Just when it seemed the points would be shared, Federico Valverde emerged as the hero. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, the Uruguayan midfielder struck from the edge of the box, his shot deflecting off a defender and into the net: 1-2.
The victory keeps Real one point behind leaders Barcelona, though the Catalans have a game in hand. Experience the drama at the Bernabéu with Real Madrid tickets.
FC Barcelona: Yamal's Moment of Genius
Barcelona faced a hostile atmosphere at San Mamés against Athletic Club, and it showed. Within eighteen seconds, João Cancelo almost put through his own net, hitting the crossbar. The visitors failed to register a single shot on target in the first half.
The second half proved equally difficult against the fierce Basques, but one moment of individual brilliance was all Barcelona needed. Lamine Yamal picked up the ball, cut inside, and curled a magnificent strike into the top corner to seal a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
It wasn't pretty, but Barcelona didn't need it to be. The win maintains their four-point cushion at the top of La Liga over Real Madrid.
