PSG and Lazio win at home in UCL

This Champions League restart has shown us everything can happen in this exciting tournament. On the Tuesday both away teams(Manchester City and Real Madrid) got a victory over the line. On the Wednesday it was up to Real Sociedad and Bayern Munich to continue this streak. Unfortunately for those teams, the home teams on Wednesday performed a lot better.

Lazio adds to Bayern’s misery

It’s an understatement to say this isn’t the best week for Bayern Munich. Last Saturday they lost against Bayer Leverkusen, which increased the gap between both teams to five points. On Wednesday they travelled to Rome to face Lazio in the Champions League round of 16. After playing for 67 minutes without scoring a goal, Upamecano fouled Isaksen in the box. This led to a penalty and a sending off. Lazio captain Ciro Immobile netted the penalty, giving Lazio a 1-0 victory. There is still all to play for in this tie, but Bayern needs to step up their game in the second leg.

Paris Saint-Germain takes big step

Just like the other match on the same evening, this match stayed goalless for way too long. It was Kylian Mbappé who opened the score in the 58th minute for PSG. 12 minutes later Bradley Barcola doubled the lead, giving PSG a very good position for the second leg. With the attacking power in the team, PSG should be able to score at least one goal in Spain. Which would force Real Sociedad to score at least 3.

Next matches

In the current UCL set-up, the round of 16 matches are divided over two weeks. The first four have been played now. Next week it’s time for the second English team in the tournament, when Arsenal will play in Portugal against Porto. The other matches are Inter vs Atletico Madrid, PSV vs Borussia Dortmund and Napoli vs Barcelona. All these teams will give it their all in an attempt to get one step closer to the Champions League final.
