Eredivisie title race is coming to a tight end

The title race in the Eredivisie has been very tight since the start of the season. However, Ajax are sitting top of the league for the first time in over 1000 days, which is a very long time. The two Dutch giants played each other in the league 10 days ago in a match that Ajax won to open up the title race again. Prior to the game Ajax were five points behind PSV. The game started well for Ajax as Schwaab scored an own goal in the 21st minute, but that was the only real action in the first half. The second half came to life when Mazaoui was shown a yellow for a challenge on Angeliño, however, after consulting VAR the referee showed him a straight red. One minute later, De Jong scored a header that Onana misread and the game was level at 1-1. With Ajax being down to 10 men PSV were pressing but in the 72nd minute, Neres was brought down in the area to give Ajax a penalty. Tadic stepped up to score and give Ajax the much-needed lead. They held on well with 10 men and gave the final blow in the 96th minute when Neres scored to end the game 3-1.

The following round of games which was midweek, both teams won pretty comprehensively. Then Ajax was playing first on Saturday and beat Willem II 1-4 to put the pressure on PSV who were playing the next day on Sunday. They played Vitesse away and needed a 91st-minute equalizer to salvage a point. This means that Ajax are now top of the Eredivisie on goal difference. PSV also still have to play AZ away on the last day of the season, who are battling for third place with Feyenoord and will be a very tricky end to their season. Ajax are now in the driving seat and are in control of their own fate.
