Match Details
Manchester City v Ipswich Town takes place on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at the Etihad Stadium. The kick-off time and UK broadcast details for this fixture are still to be confirmed by the Premier League.
Head-to-Head Record
This is a fixture with more history than many would expect, with 68 meetings between the two sides. Of those 68 meetings, Ipswich have actually won 28 times compared to City's 25, while there have been 15 draws, a reflection of Ipswich's strong top-flight history in decades gone by. In terms of more recent meetings, however, City have dominated, winning the last two Premier League clashes between the sides, including a 6-0 rout at Portman Road in January 2025. This season, City head into the fixture under Enzo Maresca, while Ipswich return to the top flight under new boss Gary O'Neil, and the Tractor Boys will be hoping to cause an upset on their first visit to the Etihad since their promotion.
Last Meeting: Ipswich Town 0-6 Manchester City (January 19, 2025)
The last meeting between Ipswich and Manchester City was in January 2025 and it saw City do more than enough to secure the points in a one-sided Premier League clash. Phil Foden scored twice either side of a goal from Mateo Kovacic, before further goals from Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland and James McAtee completed a comfortable win for the visitors at Portman Road. This result would go on to compound a miserable season for Ipswich, who ultimately finished bottom of the Premier League and were relegated back to the Championship, before securing an immediate return to the top flight last season.
Manchester City 2026-2027 Season
Manchester City are undoubtedly a club in transition currently, having said farewell to Pep Guardiola after ten trophy-laden years in charge, but having spent big in the summer transfer window, their squad looks a lot fresher than it has done for some time. Signing the likes of club-record signing Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, along with World Cup star Ayyoub Bouaddi, means their squad now has some exciting new faces to go alongside the experience of Erling Haaland and Phil Foden. However, the loss of Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid and World Cup winner Rodri to Barcelona will no doubt be a huge loss to Enzo Maresca's side, who seem to have lost a lot of Premier League experience from their midfield. City ended last season with the FA Cup and EFL Cup in the bag but had to settle for the runners-up spot in the Premier League behind Arsenal. With Enzo Maresca now at the wheel, it will be interesting to see whether this new approach can bring the title back to the Etihad this campaign. Manchester City have started the season well, but this game against Ipswich will be a good test on whether they can compete this season.
Ipswich Town 2026-2027 Season
Ipswich Town head into the 2026-2027 campaign back in the Premier League for the first time since their relegation in 2024-25, with Gary O'Neil now in charge of the club following the departure of Kieran McKenna over the summer. Having secured an immediate return to the top flight via a second-placed finish in the Championship, Ipswich have also strengthened their squad for a second crack at the Premier League, breaking their transfer record in the process. As a result, there is an expectation on them to show significant improvement on their previous top-flight campaign, in which they finished bottom of the table with a club-record-low points total. With O'Neil now at the wheel, it will be interesting to see whether his Premier League experience can help Ipswich avoid an immediate return to the Championship. So far, Ipswich have had a positive start to the season, picking up two wins, against Crystal Palace and Sunderland, alongside three losses, including a chastening 5-2 defeat to Manchester United. These two victories early on in the campaign will give Ipswich fans reason to be hopeful, especially as it took the Tractor Boys eleven games to pick up their first win in the 24/25 season, and they ended that season with only four wins.
