Match Details
Chelsea v Manchester United takes place on Saturday, October 31, 2026 at Stamford Bridge. The kick-off time and UK broadcast details for this fixture are still to be confirmed by the Premier League.
Stamford Bridge
Stamford Bridge has been Chelsea's home ground since 1905, having originally opened in 1877 as an athletics venue used by the London Athletic Club. Based in Fulham, West London, Stamford Bridge holds 40,044 fans at full capacity, making it one of the more compact grounds in the Premier League but also one of its most atmospheric on European and derby nights. You can really feel the history of the club as you approach the ground. If you're travelling to the stadium from central London, it's incredibly easy to get to via public transport. The best option is to take the District line to Fulham Broadway tube station, which sits right next to the stadium, making it one of the most convenient grounds in the country to reach on matchday.
Head-to-Head Record
Everyone knows that this is one of the most historic fixtures in English football, with 199 meetings between the two sides. Of those 199 meetings, Manchester United have won 85 times compared to Chelsea's 57, while there have been 57 draws. United won the most recent meeting between the sides last season, so the expectation from most football supporters will be that Michael Carrick's side does the same again. However, a lot has happened since then, with Chelsea appointing a new manager over the summer and both sides looking to build momentum in the early weeks of the campaign. This will certainly be a good marker of where both sides are at in terms of their progress.
Last Meeting: Chelsea 0-1 Manchester United (April 18, 2026)
The last meeting between the two sides was in April 2026 and it saw Manchester United pick up all three points at Stamford Bridge courtesy of a first-half strike from Matheus Cunha, who fired in United's only shot on target of the match. The result opened up a ten-point advantage for United in the race for Champions League qualification and further damaged Chelsea's own hopes of a top-five finish, with home fans' frustration at the running of the club clear to see both before and after kick-off. It capped a miserable, turbulent campaign for Chelsea, who would go on to appoint Xabi Alonso as their new head coach over the summer in the hope of a fresh start.
Chelsea 2026-2027 Season
Chelsea are undoubtedly a team in transition currently, but having spent big in the summer transfer window, their squad looks a lot healthier than it has in recent years. Signing the likes of Morgan Rogers, Danny Welbeck, and Emiliano Martinez, means their team now has plenty of Premier League experience, which is something the Blues have struggled with over the years. Often they have chosen to stockpile younger talents for profit later down the line, but that has consistently led to minimal success. With Xabi Alonso now at the wheel, it will be interesting to see whether this new approach can change their fortunes this campaign. Chelsea have started well in their opening two games, with entertaining wins over Fulham and Brighton, but this game against Manchester United will be the truest test of how far they've come in preseason.
Manchester United 2026-2027 Season
Manchester United head into the 2026-2027 campaign with Michael Carrick now in permanent charge of the club following his success at the backend of last season. Having spent big on a brand new midfield in the summer, which includes the likes of Carlos Beleba, Andrey Santos, and Youri Tielemans, United now look to have a much stronger squad than they did last campaign. As a result, there is an expectation on them to compete for trophies and at least make an attempt to go for the Premier League title. With the squad now looking a lot better, it's now up to Michael Carrick and his side to prove they can kick on and challenge for major honours once again. However, with Carrick's side likely to look to play more expansive football this season, there may be a bit of a transition period. That was clear in their opening game of the season in which they lost 2-0 to Hull City, United looked sluggish and their new signings struggled to gel with the rest of the team. If Manchester United are going to take the step up this season, they will no doubt be heavily reliant on captain Fernandes again. Fernandes broke the all-time Premier League record last season and he'll be hoping the rest of the side can reach his levels this campaign.
