How the Leagues Cup works
Thirty-six clubs take part: all of Liga MX alongside the qualifying clubs from Major League Soccer. Each team plays three Phase One fixtures against opponents from the other league, and results feed into two separate tables, one per league. The top four from each table advance to a single-elimination bracket that runs from the quarter-finals through the semi-finals to the final. There are no draws: knockout matches level after ninety minutes go straight to a penalty shootout, with no extra time. The leading finishers earn places in the following season's Champions Cup.
