The capital of Sardinia is also known for its love of football. Cagliari Calcio, the local club, plays in Serie A and the demand of Cagliari football tickets soar everytime there is a match played involving the local team. The home team has won Serie A title once in 1970. In 1994 UEFA Cup they lost to another Italian club Inter Milan in the semi-final stage. Stadio Sant'Elia is one of Cagliari's biggest stadia. During 1990 FIFA World Cup the 23,486 capacity stadium hosted three matches. The stadium hosted Group F matches involving England against Republic of Ireland, the Netherlands and Egypt. It was opened to local football lovers in 1970. Football matches in Cagliari also take place at the other stadium gracing the city's skyline, Stadio Is Arenas. It was inaugurated in 2012 and is currently having approximately 16,000 seats.
