Seating Plan | Choosing Your Seat

Choosing your seat at

Every ground is laid out differently, but the questions you need to answer are the same everywhere. This guide walks through them so you can judge any block on the seating plan before you book.

Along the side or behind the goal

Seats along the touchline give the clearest view of how a match unfolds. You see the shape of both teams, the space between the lines and where the play is heading. Seats behind the goal put you close to the action at one end and are usually where the loudest support gathers, but the far end of the pitch will feel distant for roughly half the match.

Lower tier or upper tier

The lower tier brings you closest to the players and to the noise. The trade-off is perspective: from the front rows the pitch flattens out and you lose sight of what is happening on the far side. Upper tiers give you the full picture but move you further away. In most grounds the sweet spot sits in the back half of the lower tier or the first rows of the tier above.

Cover, sun and wind

Roofs rarely cover a whole stand. Front rows and corner blocks are the most exposed to rain, and corners tend to be the coldest seats in the ground because wind funnels through the gaps between stands. For an afternoon kick off, seats facing west can catch low sun in the first half.

Away supporters and family areas

Away fans are almost always allocated a block behind one goal or in a corner. Sitting nearby means a livelier atmosphere and more banter, which suits some supporters and not others. Family areas are quieter, alcohol is usually not sold there, and stewards are briefed to help families.

Accessible seating

Wheelchair positions are spread across the ground and normally include a free companion seat. They cannot be booked through general sale, so contact the club or the venue directly and allow extra time, as the number of spaces is limited.

Before you book

Check the block and row on your ticket against the seating plan, and remember that the same block can feel very different at the front and at the back. If you are travelling to for the first time, arriving early gives you time to find your entrance without rushing.
