Club History
CD Tondela was founded in 1933 and has undertaken a remarkable journey through Portuguese football. After decades in the lower divisions, the club reached Primeira Liga for the first time in 2015, marking a historic moment for this small town in Viseu District.
The club spent five seasons in the top flight (2015-2021) before being relegated to Liga Portugal 2. After three seasons in the second tier, Tondela under coach Luís Pinto won the Liga Portugal 2 championship in 2024-25 and now returns to the elite of Portuguese football.
For the 2025-26 season, the club has appointed Ivo Vieira as their new head coach. Vieira, an experienced 49-year-old coach, has replaced Luís Pinto who moved to Vitória SC. The new manager brings extensive experience from clubs including Marítimo, Gil Vicente, Famalicão, and international experience in Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and Turkey.
Current Season 2025-2026
The 2025-26 season marks Tondela's return to Primeira Liga after a three-year absence. The club has conducted an ambitious transfer campaign, with new signings including Colombian defender Brayan Medina from América de Cali and Spanish midfielder Xabi Huarte from Osasuna.
Preparation for the new season began on July 1, 2025, with medical examinations and physical tests. The team held a training camp in Quiaios, Figueira da Foz, and played friendly matches against teams including FC Arouca, Académico de Viseu, SL Benfica B, and CD Nacional.
