2016 International Champions Cup to feature top clubs worldwide

The exciting 2016 International Champions Cup will be played from July 23 – August 13, with titan clubs competing for silverware all across North America and Europe.

In 2016, the massive ICC will be played around the world featuring a star-studded lineup with global appeal, including standalone tournaments in both China and Australia providing elite competition during the summer. Clubs participating in the two overseas showcases include Man City, Tottenham Hotspur F.C., Juventus F.C., Atletico Madrid and Melbourne Victory F.C, giving football fans from around the world the opportunity to see their favorite clubs and superstar footballers in live action.

World-Class Matchups Include FC Bayern Munich v Real Madrid at MetLife Stadium, Chelsea v Liverpool at Rose Bowl Stadium, Real Madrid v Paris Saint Germain at Ohio State University, FC Bayern Munich v F.C. Internazionale at Bank of America Stadium, and Chelsea v A.C. Milan at US Bank Stadium. The International Champions Cup is the first tournament of the 2016 - 2017 soccer season. The ten clubs participating in 2016 have won a total of 190 domestic league titles, 246 domestic cup titles, and 36 UEFA Champions League titles. The teams include 18 of the 2015 - 2016 FIFA Ballon d'Or nominees, as well as the top football players in the world. The matchups for the 2016 International Champions Cup are some of the best in the tournaments history, with four teams: Real Madrid C.F., FC Barcelona, FC Bayern Munich and Paris Saint Germain vying for the Champions League title and trophy.

The ICC will open the first major event at the Minnesota Vikings brand new venue. AC Milan will go face to face with Chelsea at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on August 3rd. The International Champions Cup has installed a rich tradition of opening new venues for soccer, including Lucas Oil Stadium, Dodger Stadium, and University of Michigan Stadium. The tournament will continue to host matches at some of the most well-known college stadiums in the country. Real Madrid will play PSG at Ohio Stadium on July 27, and PSG will face F.C. Internazionale at Autzen Stadium in Oregon on July 24.

Following the great success of 2015’s global ICC tournament in the United States, the 2016 International Champions Cup has expanded into Australia, China, and Europe to bring the world’s giant clubs into tournaments in four different continents. The Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia will host some of Europe’s most successful clubs, including Juventus, Tottenham Hotspur, Atlético Madrid, and local A-League side Melbourne Victory.

ICC China will feature titans Manchester United FC, Manchester City FC, and Borussia Dortmund, hosting the first ever Manchester Derby played outside of Manchester, UK. The 2016 International Champions Cup will run from July 23 – August 13 featuring matches across the United States and Europe. Each team will play three matches, and the club with the most points at the end of the tournament will be crowned ICC 2016 Champions. Each win in regulation will result in three points, and a tie will go straight to a shootout; the winning team in a shootout will receive two points and the losing team will receive one point.

Ten teams from around the globe, including England (Liverpool FC, Chelsea FC, Leicester City FC), Italy (AC Milan, FC Internazionale), France (Paris Saint-Germain), Spain (FC Barcelona, Real Madrid), Germany (FC Bayern Munich) and Scotland (Celtic FC) will compete in the 2016 International Champions Cup demonstrating the immense global appeal of the tournament and demand for elite competition during the summer. Clubs participating in China include Manchester City, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund, while Tottenham Hotspur FC, Juventus FC, Atletico Madrid and Melbourne Victory FC will compete in Australia, providing even more fans from around the world the opportunity to see their favorite clubs live.

International soccer has been expanded by the Guiness International Champions Cup or ICC, and taken the European club preseason tour to a new level by staging an amazing world-class summer tournament that features the top superstar footballers and biggest clubs in the world.

The inaugural ICC edition in the summer of 2013 featured eight top clubs competing in six U.S. cities in a star-studded lineup: Real Madrid, Juventus, Chelsea FC, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Valencia, Everton and LA Galaxy battled on the pitch, culminating with a spectacular final in Miami, Florida that was won by Spanish titans Real Madrid over Chelsea FC in front of 70,000 fans.

The 2014 ICC took the tournament to a higher level across 13 cities in the US and Canada, European powerhouses Real Madrid, Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, A.C. Milan, Roma, Inter Milan and Olympiacos played three matches each in a new round-robin format. A U.S. record-breaking crowd of 109,318 soccer fans attended the Manchester United v Real Madrid match at the University of Michigan's "Big House" as Man Utd defeated Real Madrid in the largest soccer match in U.S. history. More than 631,000 fans attended the tournament, with a global audience of over 80 million tuned in on TV throughout 150 countries.

ICC 2014 ended with an all-England final at Sun Live Stadium in Miami, Florida as Manchester United capped off an undefeated tournament with a 3-1 victory over Liverpool.

In 2015 the ICC had tournaments in Australia and China with the tournament kicking off three team editions in both Australia and in China. The tournament at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, Australia featured 2013 ICC champions Real Madrid v 2014 participants Manchester City and AS Roma, and was won by Real Madrid who continued on to China, playing 2014 ICC participants AC Milan and Inter Milan with games in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Shanghai.
