Arsenal 0-2 Bayern Munich
The Emirates Stadium played host to a riveting Champions League game, with a red card and two missed penalties making things interesting before Bayern prevailed and emerged victorious 2-0. The first half started with both teams keen to take the upper-hand, and it was in the 9th minute where the frantic pace of the game saw Jerome Boateng bundle Mesut Ozil to the floor in the area. A spot-kick was awarded and Ozil's shot was weak and easily palmed away by Manuel Neuer. Just before half-time, Arjen Robben was brought down by Szczesny and shown a red card. Lukasz Fabianski came on to face the penalty, but Alaba hit his spot-kick just wide off the post. With a man advantage, Bayern dominated the rest of the match. Nine minutes after the restart, Kroos took a shot from 20 yards out which went into the top corner. Thomas Müller secured Bayern's victory in the 88th minute via a header which found it's way past Fabianski, and Kroos almost made it three when his last minute shot hit the post.

Thibaut Courtois was the hero for Atletico in this inspiring victory over Italian giants AC Milan. The young Belgium keeper pulled off two spectacular saves in the first half to give the Spanish team hope of a victory. Madrid had nearly gone ahead in the opening minute, giving Milan a scare in their penalty area before the Italians took control for the rest of the first half. Emerging for the second-half with nothing on the scoreboard, both teams fought bravely to gain the upper-hand. The visiting fans in the formidable San Siro stadium were rewarded with seven minutes left on the clock. A corner by Gabi found defender Ignazio Abate, but he could not control his header and the ball went straight up in the air. Diego Costa back-pedalled and managed to get enough power on the ball to head it in just inside the back post. Adil Rami nearly levelled in the dying minutes, but Atletico held on and go into the second-leg with an away goal advantage.
