Championship Play Off Final: Crystal Palace 1-0 Watford (AET)

Palace Win Playoffs

Crystal Palace have ended their Premier League hiatus after defeating Watford in the Playoff final. After a nervy first half, Crystal Palace began to apply the pressure and forced Watford Goalkeeper, Almunia, into a number of top class saves. However, it was Palace keeper Julian Speroni who made the stop of the day, acrobatically denying Troy Deeney. Neither side was able to grab a winner within 90 minutes so the game moved into extra time. The massive Wembley pitch and the sweltering heat played its part as both sides struggled to keep up the frenetic pace set in the first part of the match. Holloway Cautious over success

In the dying seconds of extra time the excellent Wilfred Zaha rampaged into the Watford box and was brought down by a heavy Legged Mario Cassetti. The referee, without hesitation, pointed to the spot and veteran striker Kevin Phillips hammered home the resulting penalty. The game is thought to be worth around £120 million to the victors but in spite of the influx of cash staying in the league is no mean feat. With Palace boss Ian Holloway saying "It all starts now for me because the minute we kick off next season we are on a hiding to nothing".
