England's World Cup qualifier with Montenegro ended in stalemate after a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night in Podgorica. England looked solid and confident in the first half and took the lead with a headed Wayne Rooney goal from a Steven Gerrard corner after only six minutes. The visitors continued to dominate but Rooney missed a golden chance to double the scoring in 27 minutes after he failed to bury a James Milner pass right across the front of goal. Montenegro changed their team and formation at half time and went after England in the second half. The game turned around, with England seemingly unable to cope with the new setup.

England stay second after disappointing draw

Montenegro equalised deservedly through substitute Damjanovic after Hart's initial reaction save. England almost stole it in the dying minutes, however, with a rasping Steven Gerrard free kick, which was pushed over the bar.
