FA Cup: Manchester United 2-1 Reading

Manchester United eased into the FA Cup quarter-finals with a convincing 2-1 win over Reading. Goals from Nani and Javier Hernandez meant United could still entertain the dream of completing the Treble, even after a late goal made for a tense final ten minutes.

The visitors were put under a lot of pressure in the first half, and credit must go to Brian McDermott's team after they walked of at half time with the game still goalless. United's only worry in the first half was the injury sustained by Phil Jones after a clash with Jobi McAnuff. The United defender limped off, not to return, and the injury will be of some concern to Alex Ferguson.

United came out strong in the second half, with Reading keeper Federici stopping shots from Anderson and Nani, and Hunt clearing a Vidic header off the line. Nani finally hit the back of the net after collecting a pass from Valencia and putting it past Federici in the 69th minute. Reading almost equalised immediately after, with Le Fondre forcing an impressive save by De Gea. Hernandez scored a few minutes later from a Nani cross to put United up 2-0. McAnuff pulled one back in the 81st minute to put everyone watching on the edge of their seats, but United prevailed and will now meet either Chelsea or Middlesborough at home in the next round.
