Messi Rejects £20 Million-a-Year Offer from Anzhi

Barcelona's Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi has turned down the chance to earn a staggering £24 million a year at Russian club Anzhi Makachkala. In what would have been a world-record shattering EUR250 transfer, Messi would have earned an eye-watering £460,000 per week. Reports in Spain suggested that the Russian club has triggered a clause in Messi's contract that allowed him to talk to clubs willing to pay the required transfer fee. Had Messi decided to accept the offer, Barcelona would have been powerless to stop it going through. However, in a show of solidarity to the club he has been at since he was a boy, Messi put his signature on a new two-year contract extension, and stopped rumours of a move before they really got going. Meanwhile, Real Madrid maestro Cristiano Ronaldo is rumoured to be considering a move away from the Bernabeu. According to some sections of the media, the Portuguese international is wanted by Paris Saint-Germain - and his old club Manchester United. His current contract runs out at the end of next season, and the Spanish giants won't want to lose him for free - making an early sale a real possibility.
