It was a big week in Europe for the English clubs, with a famous scalp taken on the south coast, an early lead squandered in Poland, and a frustrating stalemate in Czechia. Here, we'll run you through how the English sides fared in the Europa League and Conference League.
Bournemouth stun Milan to stay perfect
Bournemouth continued their fine start in Europe on Thursday with a stunning win over AC Milan. The game finished 3-0 at the Vitality Stadium, and the Cherries made sure it was a night to remember. Justin Kluivert converted an eighth-minute penalty, before Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan was sent off on 27 minutes. Marcus Tavernier added a second from the spot five minutes later, and Amine Adli curled in a superb free-kick six minutes from time. Following wins over Real Sociedad and Sturm Graz, the Cherries are one of only five sides to have won all three of their Europa League games, scoring eight and conceding just once.
Crystal Palace held in Istanbul
Crystal Palace's frustrating start to the season continued on Thursday after a 2-2 draw with Beşiktaş. Coming just days after a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Brighton, the Eagles fell behind in first-half stoppage time through Wilfred Ndidi. Palace improved after the break and Yeremy Pino levelled six minutes after the restart, before Jean-Philippe Mateta fired them in front four minutes later. Junior Olaitan's equaliser with 17 minutes to go set up a tense finish, but even after Beşiktaş defender Ümit Akdağ was sent off, the Eagles couldn't find a winner, leaving them with four points from the first three games.
Sunderland pegged back in Poland
Sunderland were left frustrated in the Europa League, being held to a 1-1 draw by Polish side Lech Poznań. Tymur Tutierov gave them the perfect start, scoring after just two minutes when Nilson Angulo capitalised on a mix-up at the back. Sunderland couldn't find a second, and Leo Bengtsson levelled from a corner 20 minutes from time to earn the hosts their first point of the campaign. The draw ends Sunderland's 100% record, but they remain unbeaten with seven points from three games ahead of Dinamo Zagreb's visit next.
