English teams dominate Champions League

Three English clubs secured commanding victories on matchday three of the Champions League, with Arsenal, Manchester City, and Newcastle United all winning away from home or at home by comfortable margins.

Arsenal humiliate Atlético Madrid in thirteen-minute blitz

Arsenal delivered their most impressive performance of the Champions League campaign, dismantling Atlético Madrid 4-0 at home. The Gunners, maintained their perfect record with three wins from three matches. The match started promisingly for Arsenal, with Eberechi Eze hitting the crossbar early on after his deflected shot nearly opened the scoring. Gabriel Martinelli thought he had broken the deadlock, but his goal was ruled out for offside. Atlético had their own golden opportunity when Giuliano Simeone, son of manager Diego Simeone, inexplicably missed an open goal.

The second half began with continued pressure from both sides. Atlético striker Julián Álvarez struck the crossbar before Arsenal finally broke through just before the hour mark. Brazilian defender Gabriel rose highest to head home a Declan Rice free kick, giving the hosts a deserved lead. What followed was a stunning thirteen-minute spell that killed the contest. Martinelli curled a beautiful shot into the far corner for 2-0, before Viktor Gyökeres struck twice from close range to complete the rout and seal a emphatic 4-0 victory.

Manchester City cruise past Villarreal

Manchester City maintained their steady Champions League form with a professional 2-0 away victory at Villarreal. Manager Pep Guardiola's side controlled proceedings throughout, with Dutch players Tijjani Reijnders and Nathan Aké remaining on the bench. City wasted no time asserting their dominance. After Jérémy Doku saw his early effort saved, Erling Haaland opened the scoring after just over fifteen minutes. Rico Lewis found space behind the Villarreal defense and delivered a low cross that the Norwegian striker converted with his trademark sharpness.

Five minutes before halftime, City doubled their advantage. Savinho provided the assist this time, spotting Bernardo Silva's intelligent run and delivering a perfect cross. The diminutive Portuguese midfielder powered a header past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0. Villarreal attempted to press forward more in the second half but rarely troubled the visitors. City managed the game expertly, with Reijnders getting some late minutes as the match wound down.

Newcastle United demolish Benfica

Newcastle United secured their second consecutive Champions League victory with an impressive 3-0 triumph over Benfica at St. James' Park. Anthony Gordon and substitute Harvey Barnes were the heroes on a memorable night for the Magpies. Gordon opened the scoring after half an hour, tapping home a Jacob Murphy cross for his third goal in three consecutive Champions League matches. Benfica had shown threat in the first half, with Dodi Lukebakio hitting the post and forcing a save from goalkeeper Nick Pope.

Manager Eddie Howe's tactical substitution proved inspired. Harvey Barnes, introduced in the second half, made an immediate impact. In the 70th minute, he converted following a long throw from Pope to make it 2-0. Barnes then sealed his brace late in the match, finishing off an Anthony Gordon assist to complete the 3-0 scoreline. The result was particularly disappointing for Benfica manager José Mourinho, who watched his side comprehensively outplayed by a vibrant Newcastle team now sitting comfortably in the Champions League group standings.

English dominance Continues

Tuesday's results underscore the strength of English football on the European stage, with all three teams winning by an aggregate score of 9-0. Arsenal's perfect start continues, Manchester City march on with typical efficiency, and Newcastle are making their mark in Europe's premier competition.
