Liverpool joins Man United with 20 league titles

April 27th, 2025 18:11

Liverpool has officially reclaimed its place among England’s footballing elite. With a dazzling 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, Arne Slot’s team secured the club’s 20th English league title drawing level with arch-rivals Manchester United at the top of the all-time honor roll.

A historic moment at Anfield

The Reds were aware that just a single point against struggling Spurs would be enough to crown them champions. But Liverpool, as they have done so often under Slot this season, went for more. Even an early setback — a headed goal from former Vitesse striker Dominic Solanke — couldn’t derail the party plans. Liverpool quickly responded. Dominik Szoboszlai slipped through the defense and set up Luis Díaz, whose goal was initially ruled out for offside but correctly awarded after VAR intervention. Moments later, Ryan Gravenberch was fouled but managed to push the ball to Alexis Mac Allister, who unleashed a thunderous strike to make it 2-1.

Gakpo, Salah, and a sealed title

The momentum was firmly with the Reds. Cody Gakpo, starting alongside Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch, curled a superb shot into the far corner for Liverpool’s third. His celebration — lifting a shirt with the message "I belong to Jesus" echoed iconic scenes once made famous by Kaká. Mohamed Salah, ever the talisman, joined the party by scoring his 28th goal of the Premier League season, cutting inside and firing into the near post. With that goal, Salah became the highest-scoring foreign player in Premier League history. He marked the moment memorably, taking a spontaneous selfie with an ecstatic fan. Tottenham’s misery was complete when Destiny Udogie accidentally put the ball into his own net, setting the final score at 5-1 and sending Anfield into a state of euphoria.

Slot’s dream debut season

Arne Slot’s incredible impact at Liverpool cannot be overstated. In his very first season, the Dutchman has led Liverpool back to the summit of English football. He becomes only the fourth manager ever to win the Premier League title in his debut season, and notably, the first Dutch manager to do so. His arrival has ushered in a new era of excitement and dominance at Anfield, culminating in Liverpool reclaiming their place alongside Manchester United with 20 English league titles each.

The bigger picture

Manchester United famously overtook Liverpool in the early 2000s under Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign. Now, a decade after Ferguson’s retirement, United’s title tally has stalled, while Liverpool — under new leadership — is back at the top. Arsenal, despite years of struggles, remains third on the all-time list with 13 titles. Manchester City, bolstered by recent dominance, has risen to fourth with 10. Everton rounds out the top five with nine titles. This 20th title not only cements Liverpool’s legendary status but also sets up an exciting new chapter under Slot one filled with promise, ambition, and, judging by this season, plenty more silverware.

Superb! Easy to purchase a ticket. I had a live customer service chat once, the staff member was so polite, helpful and informative. I loved the communication after purchase. On the match day they contacted me on WhatsApp if I want an upgrade on my tickets for free and after my confirmation I got my tickets within a minute. Great experience, thank you.

This is the best and most trusted website to get your tickets to any world event. I have used them 3 times throughout the years, I have used other sites for football matches and they are so transparent and fast, the first time I used them was in 2018 for a Roma match and then made the mistake to use a different site for the PSG match in April and they were terrible, from the website, customer service and responses. this is the only site I trust and use!

Bought 2 Club Wembley tickets less than 48 hours before the Championship Play Off Final. Good communication and tickets arrived the following day by email. No problems getting into the stadium and seats were great. Unfortunately my team’s performance was the only let down. Would definitely use this company again.

Communication was excellent, the tickets were sent quickly and were easy to access, so no problems at the stadium. Seats were good and we had a great view. Everything worked well and I'll definitely be back for tickets again - many thanks!
