England dominates Greece 3-0 in Nations League revenge match

England took sweet revenge on Greece on Thursday night, securing a convincing 0-3 victory in Athens. The win not only avenged their shocking 1-2 loss to the Greeks at Wembley but also highlighted the depth of talent in their squad, as three debutants played crucial roles under interim head coach Lee Carsley. With this result, England now leads Group 2 of Division B in the Nations League, edging closer to a return to the top tier.

A revamped starting XI and early breakthrough

With a host of regular players sidelined—nine in total—England fielded an unconventional lineup. The absence of key players gave opportunities to newcomers, including Curtis Jones, who made his debut for the national team. Despite the changes, England started brightly. In the 7th minute, Noni Madueke, a consistent attacking threat throughout the match, provided a pinpoint assist to Ollie Watkins, who slotted the ball home to reward his starting position. Greece responded with some pressure of their own, with Kostas Tsimikas testing Jordan Pickford, but England held their composure to go into halftime with a 0-1 lead.

Second-half dominance

Carsley made impactful substitutions after the break, bringing on debutants Lewis Hall (Newcastle United) and Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa). Harry Kane, recovering from injury, also entered the match for the final half-hour. Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham, ever-energetic in midfield, nearly extended England's lead, striking the crossbar with a powerful header early in the second half. Greece, missing their star striker Vangelis Pavlidis who had tormented England in the previous match, struggled to mount a credible comeback. Despite bringing on Fotis Ioannidis to bolster their attack, they could not break through England’s defense.

Sealing the victory in style

The turning point came in the final quarter of the game. Jude Bellingham's shot deflected off the post and the back of Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos to make it 0-2. Minutes later, Curtis Jones capped off his debut with a moment of brilliance, scoring with a stunning backheel to secure the 0-3 win for England. This victory places England and Greece level on points at the top of Group 2, but England holds the advantage on goal difference. However, the group remains undecided as both teams prepare for their final matches. England will host Ireland at Wembley, while Greece faces Finland in an away match. The group winner will secure promotion to Division A of the Nations League, with Sunday’s fixtures set to determine their fate.

A promising future for England

England’s commanding performance in Athens showcased not only their depth but also their ability to adapt under pressure. Carsley’s decision to trust debutants like Curtis Jones and Lewis Hall paid dividends, as they contributed to a crucial win. With one match left in their Nations League campaign, England looks poised to reclaim their place among Europe’s elite.

Got tickets for PSG - Liverpool game. Got second last row at Parc des Princes, but the stadium is fantastic so the view was great. Not blocked, can see everything perfectly, kinda like tactical camera. The delivery was simple, just an email the night before or the morning (dont remember), but definitely no stress. Also the ticket had my name on it, as PSG fans said it was quite important to have my name on a ticket for this stadium, so that was an extra plus. Overall it was great. Match was fantastic! Lifetime memory! And the service was good
