Before the start of this Euro 2024 tournament, we asked ChatGPT to give us its best predictions for the tournament. Now we’ve got a football free day, we finally got the time to look into these predictions to see how it went so far. We won’t go into every detail, but will look at the most important facts.
Group stage
Four out of the six group winners were predicted correctly. Unfortunately, ChatGPT was unable to predict an entire group right. The best it got was two out of four in several groups. The worst it got was Group D, where it got it all wrong. For the round of 16 qualification, it got a score of 10 out 16. All divided over different matches, so it failed to predict 1 single round of 16 match correct.
Quarter final
The next phase, which starts on Friday, is going to be a very exciting one. But
How did ChatGPT look at this round 2 weeks ago? Where the score of 10 out of 16 in the R16 was pretty poor, it did a lot better for the quarter finals. Germany, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, England and France where al predicted to reach the quarter finals. Germany versus Spain is even the correct first quarter final.
The other team didn’t have the right match-ups, but at least they are predicted to get this far. A predicted semi-final of Germany versus Portugal is still on the cards, but that means the home nation needs to beat a very impressive Spain. If them manage to beat Spain, Germany is a serious contender to win it all, like ChatGPT predicted before the tournament. The Euro 2024 final between Germany and France however isn’t possible anymore, since both nations will face each other in the semi-final when they win their respective quarter finals.
