Group A:
West Ham's return to European competition will see them lock horns with Greek giants Olympiacos, the always competitive SC Freiburg, and Serbian side TSC Bačka Topola. The Hammers will be hopeful of topping the group, but away days in Greece and Germany could prove to be tricky.
Group B:
Four-time European champions Ajax find themselves pitted against the French outfit Marseille, Premier League side Brighton, and AEK Athens. Ajax will likely be favorites, but Marseille's recent resurgence in Ligue 1 should not be taken lightly. Brighton's first foray into European competition will be watched closely by English fans.
Group C:
Scottish champions Rangers have a challenging group with La Liga's Real Betis, Czech side Sparta Praha, and the Cypriots of Aris Limassol. Steven Gerrard's men will have their work cut out for them against Betis, but their passionate fanbase will be expecting them to progress.
Group D:
Atalanta, having impressed so much in recent Serie A campaigns, will feel confident against the likes of Sporting CP, Sturm Graz, and Raków Czestochowa. Sporting, however, with their rich European history, will surely provide a stern test.
Group E:
The standout name here is Liverpool, who have found themselves in the Europa League after a rare off-season in the Premier League. They are joined by Austrian side LASK, Belgium's Union SG, and Ligue 1's Toulouse. Jurgen Klopp's side will be the clear favorites, but their European campaigns have always thrown up surprises.
Group F:
La Liga's Villarreal, who have become a regular feature in European competitions, lead this group. Rennes from France, Maccabi Haifa from Israel, and the ever-present Panathinaikos from Greece round up this group. It could be one of the more competitive groups with all teams seeing a clear path to the next stage.
Group G:
Italian side Roma, under the management of José Mourinho, will be looking to dominate a group that includes Slavia Praha, Moldova's Sheriff Tiraspol, and Switzerland's Servette. Mourinho will expect nothing less than the top spot, but Slavia Praha, in particular, could provide a twist.
Group H:
Bayer Leverkusen will be wary of the challenges posed by Qarabağ, Molde, and Häcken. The German side will likely be favorites, but trips to Azerbaijan and Sweden could be potential banana skins.
