Manchester City extend lead to four points

Mahrez assists Gundogan

City started strongly and dominated possession from the beginning, with Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez causing problems for the Leeds defense. Their attacking play paid off in the 19th minute when Ilkay Gündogan scored the opening goal with a cool finish after a wonderful pass from Mahrez. The City fans were in full voice as they took the lead in what was a must-win game. Just eight minutes later, Gündogan was at it again, doubling City's lead with carbon copy of the first goal. The German midfielder was on fire and was proving to be a handful for the Leeds defense. City continued to press forward and had several opportunities to extend their lead, but they were unable to find the back of the net.

Poor second half

In the second half, Leeds came out with renewed energy. Manchester City felt it was all sorted and got their foot of the gas. In the 84th minute Foden got a penalty. Manchester City’s striker Erling Haaland wanted Gündogan to score his hat-trick. Unfortunately he missed and moments later Rodrigo scored the 2-1. This goal gave some glimmers of hope in North-London where many Arsenal fans were following the match hoping City would drop points. From the 2-1, City kept the ball in the team and held the three points in Manchester.

Arsenal

The win was crucial for City, as it extended their lead at the top of the table to four points, with just four games remaining. The victory also meant that Arsenal's hopes of catching City were all but over, as they would need a near-miraculous series of results to overhaul the champions-elect. Arsenal can’t drop anymore points considering City’s form. Tomorrow be will be huge test, when Arsenal plays Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

Treble still on

Every victory by Manchester City will sparken the hopes for a treble. On Tuesday they will play Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final. On Wednesday Ac and Inter Milan will face each other. On the 3rd of June Manchester City plays Manchester United in the FA Cup final. Can they get into 2 huge finals this year and win the Premier League? In a few weeks we will know more!
