The race for a place in the Premier League top 4 is heating up. Title candidates Liverpool and Manchester City are both pretty much settled in the top 4. Only mathematically they can still drop out. Chelsea is currently in third place 10 points behind Liverpool in second and 8 points ahead of Arsenal in fifth. After a 0-6 victory against Southampton, Chelsea looks on the right track to keep the third place. The battle for fourth place however is much more exciting. Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are the biggest contenders for the fourth spot. West Ham United and Manchester United can’t be completely ruled out for a top 4 finish yet. Arsenal
Arsenal positioned themselves in the frontrunner position with a very good run with 6 wins and a draw from February to March. A week ago they had the same amount of points as Tottenham Hotspur, but played two less games than their rivals. After facing Crystal on Monday and Brighton and Hove Albion yesterday, they are still on the same number of points as a week ago. Arsenal lost 3-0 against Palace and 1-2 against Brighton. With 30 matches played they are now on 54 points. With games against the two teams just above them and two teams just below them, Arsenal had a very tough run-in towards the end of the season. Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur was during a certain part of this season destined to fight for a Europa League ticket. The winter break was a turning point for the Spurs. Rumours were flying Conte would leave the club if they didn’t give him some new players. The club acted and got Rodrigo Betancur and Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus. The former on a permanent deal and the latter on loan, with a chance to finalize this deal. These transfers might well be the deciding factor in the race for a top 4 ticket. Antonio Conte got his team back on track with these two signings as two very important players. This had brought Tottenham Hotspur on the fourth place with 57 points from 31 matches. With a home match against Arsenal still on the schedule, Spurs is in an excellent position. Liverpool is the only other team within the top 9 to play Spurs in the remainder of this season.
