Manchester City gets one hand on Premier League trophy

Manchester City is the current Premier League title holder. After a rocky start they got on a run last season, which brought them the title pretty early in the season. A similar situation is looking very likely now. After a difficult start, where Chelsea took the first place and Liverpool second, Manchester City got going in December and leads the table by a big margin now. Chelsea and Liverpool look to be the only danger. The home match for Manchester City against Chelsea was one of the remaining games, which could be a match to bring some spark back in the title race.

Manchester City versus Chelsea

Manchester City started this match with a 10 point gap to the number two and opponent in this match, Chelsea. A Chelsea win could decrease this gap to 7 points. During the match it was clear Chelsea wasn’t able to decrease the gap. They got some chances, but mainly tried to keep Manchester City away from their goal. This worked quite well, until the 70th minute, when Kevin de Bruyne scored the only goal of this match. Thanks to his goal and the three points, Manchester City is now 13 points clear of Chelsea.

Liverpool still in the race

Liverpool is currently in third place on 14 points of Manchester City with two games in hand. The first game in hand is today at home against Brentford, a win in this match would bring Liverpool in second place on 11 points of City. Which eventually could drop the gap to 8 points if they win the other game in hand as well. With a game between Liverpool and Manchester City later on this season, it’s still possible for the Reds. But at the moment, the gap is big enough to say Manchester City has their first hand on the trophy.
