Manchester United stumbles upon second hurdle

The start of this season made every Manchester United fan smile. A big victory over Leeds United was enough for most of the to start dreaming of winning the Premier League this season. This week there will be a lot less Man United fans dreaming of winning the title. The Red Devils stumbled upon their second hurdle in the English Premier League. The match against Southampton ended in a 1-1 draw.

Own goal for Fred

Man United looked to be in control of the first half, until Bruno Fernandes lost the ball. Within a few passes the ball reached Adam Armstrong, whose shot bounced via Fred into the goal behind David de Gea. Bruno Fernandes claimed a foul but got rewarded with a yellow card for complaining to the referee. The unlucky own goal gave Southampton a boost. They got the idea there was something in for them in this match. They managed to bring the 1-0 score to the half-time break.

Quick goal in second half

Back in the dressing room, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer probably had one important message for his players. Get an early goal and anything is possible. The message was loud and clear and his players listened. Mason Greenwood scored the equaliser ten minutes into the second half. With 35 minutes to go, Manchester United looked to be the team to get on top in this match. But Southampton was very descent and managed to keep the draw on the board. A great result for the Saints, but a very disappointing one for Man United. Two points lost that they never expected to lose.
