English teams have been dominating football over the last years. This resulted in a first place for England in the UEFA Country ranking. This means 7 English teams will play European football. In this article we discuss the teams that qualified and for which competition they qualified.

English teams in the Champions League

Four teams qualified for the main course of European football the UEFA Champions League. The numbers one till four of the Premier League table, all go into the biggest European club tournament. For the 2021-2022 Champions League it means Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea all qualified for the group stages. Chelsea is the defending champions and want to keep the trophy in London. The Blues beat Man City in the final, so Pep’s team has something to make up this season. It’s going to be a very excited Champions League season, where Paris Saint-Germain is the big favourite to win it. They’ve added Messi to their frontline with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. It’s gonna need a big performance to beat this PSG side.

Europa League contenders

Two of the English teams qualified for the Europa League. One of them is much happier about it then the other. For Leicester City it was a downer on the last day of last season, when they dropped out of the top 4 and missed Champions League qualification. West Ham United was happy to finally qualify for the Europa League group stage. They got into the European League qualification in 2015-16 and 2016-17, but never made it to the group stages. Automatic qualification for the group stage means a lot for the Hammers.

UEFA Conference League

The UEFA Conference League is the new kid on the block. It start this season and people will have to get used to it. Tottenham Hotspur qualified for the qualification for this tournament. They face Portuguese side Paços de Ferreira on Thursday. When the Spurs beat this team over 2 games, they will enter the Conference League group stage. Not really the place they want to be, so there’s a big chance Nuno Espirito Santo will play his second tier players in this tournament. Nevertheless Tottenham Hotspur needs a trophy and this tournament can be their way to winning some silverware.
