Manchester City immediately drops points

Manchester City is one of the if not the favourites to win the Premier League title. After convincingly winning the 2020-2021 season and the signing of Jack Grealish there should be no reason why Manchester City doesn’t win the title. Or is there? The lack of a striker can become a big issue during this season. That’s exactly why Man City is after Harry Kane and is willing to pay a record fee for him.

Lack of a striker at Manchester City

Sergio Aguero left the club to go to Barcelona in this window. Gabriel Jesus never really showed that he’s of the level Manchester City requires. This made Pep decide to play Ferran Torres as a number nine. Something he did quite successfully last season, but it isn’t a long-term solution. A big club like Manchester City, who want to win the English Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Champions League, should be having an out and out number 9.

Potential strikers for Man City

If you have a quick look around Europe, there seem two be two sensible options for Manchester City. Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur and Erling Braut Håland from Borussia Dortmund. They’ve made their first offer for Kane, if they fail to land the England international, they might decide to wait one more year. Rumours are Håland has a clause in his contract, which will lower his fee next summer. Which will force Pep to fill this position in a different way for another season with the likes of Ferran Torres, Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling.

First loss of the season

The away match against Tottenham Hotspur showed why Manchester City needs a real striker. The team created quite a few chances early in the match, but they couldn’t convert any of them into a goal. A second half counterattack by Spurs, led to the 1-0 by Heung-Min Son. A goal Man City never recovered from. This win by Tottenham Hotspur, will make the upcoming week even more interesting. Will Harry Kane return to training? Are Manchester City going after Kane even harder?
