The Community Shield is traditionally the opener of the new Premier League season. The reigning Premier League champions meet the FA Cup winners, in an attempt to win the first trophy of the new season. In exactly two weeks from today Manchester City and Leicester City will travel to Wembley to fight for the first trophy of the 2021-2022 Premier League season. Which team will win it? Record winner

The team with the most Community Shield trophies is from Manchester. It isn’t Man City, but Manchester United. The club has won this trophy 21 times, from which they shared it four times. Arsenal is second on this list with 16 victories. Man City comes on 6th place with 6 wins. If they win it again this season, they will join Tottenham Hotspur on the fifth spot with 7 wins. Leicester City is shared twelfth with just one victory. They can joined Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and Burnley when they win it this year.

This match has always been a battle between the league winner versus the cup winner. The league winners have the upper hand in this battle. In 53 cases it was the league winner, who also win the Community Shield. 26 times it was the cup winner, who won it. 6 times the Community Shield winner, was the winner of the double in the year before, so those 6 are added to both categories.

Biggest victory

Back in the days English professionals played British amateurs in the Community Shield. A 7-2 victory for the professionals in 1913 and a 6-1 win for the amateurs in 1925 belongs to the biggest victories in this match. Manchester City is the only English club that also managed to win by a 5-goal difference. In 1968 the club won with 6-1 against West Bromwich Albion. A score that hasn’t been bettered in the years after.

    Bought 2 Club Wembley tickets less than 48 hours before the Championship Play Off Final. Good communication and tickets arrived the following day by email. No problems getting into the stadium and seats were great. Unfortunately my team’s performance was the only let down. Would definitely use this company again.
