Premier League returns mid June

The Premier League returns! It has been 79 days since Leicester City beat Aston Villa with 4-0 at the King Power Stadium. Harvey Barnes and Jamie Vardy scored both twice in this match on a Monday evening. Even though the Coronavirus was already in Europe at that time, nobody expected this would be the last match for some time. Not long after this match the UK went in lockdown and the Premier League was shutdown. This week the FA came with the announcement everybody has been waiting for. The Premier League returns in June!

Premier League statement

The Premier League gave the following statement:” Premier League clubs have agreed to a provisional date of the 2019/20 season resuming on Wednesday 17 June, provided all safety requirements are in place. A proposal has been approved for all 92 remaining matches to be broadcast live in the UK.”. We’ve got to wait 20 more days before we can finally enjoy some exciting Premier League matches.

Bundesliga returned successfully

The German Bundesliga is the first big league that returned back on the pitch. Players in the Bundesliga are tested twice a week and several safety precautions are used. It’s now two weeks after the return of the Bundesliga and things seem to go very smoothly in Germany. Three rounds have been played and everything goes according to plan. Let’s all hope the return of the Premier League will go as smoothly as in Germany and everybody can enjoy football without risking to get Covid-19.
