Manchester United v Arsenal match preview

Manchester United host Arsenal on Monday night football. Once considered a title match, now they two teams are fighting to make it into the top four. United have only won two of their last 12 Premier League matches, a run that stretches back to last season. Solskjaer’s team have been better defensively, however, they lack the attacking power they once had. Especially with Lukaku and Sanchez gone, without proper replacements coming in, United have a lack of attacking options. So far, they have only scored eight goals in the League, which if you compare it to City, who already have 24 then it is quite low.

Their match in the EFL Cup was supposed to give them some confidence against Rochdale, but even then, they could barely go through needing a penalty shootout to decide the game. Rashford limped off against West Ham, meaning that unless Martial is back in time, 17-year-old Greenwood is their only attacking option. Solskjaer will be encouraged by the fact that Pogba has returned to the side after a few weeks of being out. Furthermore, Daniel James has been a spark in this United side with his pace and has terrorized defenses.

Arsenal have one of the best attacks in the league, but their defense is still very shaky even with their new defensive acquisitions. In their last two matches, they gave away a 2-0 lead against Watford to draw 2-2 and then had to come from. Behind twice to win 3-2 against Aston Villa. Emery needs to find a solution to stop them from leaking so many goals. Arsenal have not won at United since 2005 but Emery will be looking to finally end their Old Trafford hoodoo.

There have been many positives though for Arsenal as Aubameyang has scored in every league game so far this season. Furthermore, Guendouzi has been exceptional in the last few games and has shown that he has a bright future with the side. Arsenal’s big-money signing, Pepe also got his first goal of the campaign last weekend and will be hoping that this can kick start his Arsenal career.

It will be a match that both teams really want to win as they are already quite a way behind Liverpool. United will be especially keen to win as they are at home and a loss will mean that they could potentially be already six points behind the top four this early in the season.

Expected results Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal.
