Chelsea v Liverpool match preview
September 20th, 2019 09:01
Chelsea host Liverpool in the Premier League match of the weekend. The two teams have formed an intense rivalry over the past two decades with some tremendous matches being played between them. Both teams are coming off a loss in their first match in the Champions League and will be looking to immediately bounce back.
Chelsea have had a mixed start to the season, but this is due to the fact that they weren’t able to sign anyone in this transfer window and are fielding the youngest Premier League starting 11. Their young players are performing well, however, so far only three players have scored: Abraham impressively bagging seven goals already, with Mount getting three and Tomori got one against Wolves last weekend. Chelsea are definitely also feeling the effects of losing their star player, Hazard, with Pulisic still needing time to adapt to the Premier League.
Liverpool have started the season just where they left off last season winning their first five matches and breaking their own club record of 14 league wins in a row. They are already 5 points ahead of Manchester City in second after City lost last weekend to Norwich. Liverpool will come into this game eager to win and continue their winning streak but will be wary that Chelsea can hurt them.
The two teams faced each other last month in the Uefa Super Cup which was a very entertaining game. The match ended 2-2 and went to penalties with Adrian saving Abrahams spot-kick to give Liverpool the win. However, Chelsea played very well against the European Champions and were focused on playing through the wings which is something they will probably try again on Sunday.
Chelsea do not have the best form against Liverpool recently, as they have only won one of their last nine meetings. They will also be worried about the from that Mane and Firmino have been in this last year and will have to be wary of Liverpool’s tremendous attacking players.
Predicted result- Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool
