Wolves v Chelsea match preview

Wolves host Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon at the Molineux stadium. Wolves have not had the best start to the season which is probably down to their European commitments as their squad is not used to traveling so much. If we remember last year, Burnley had a terrible start to the season because their squad could not cope with balancing the Thursday night games with the Premier League. The difference is that Burnley did not make the group stages whereas Wolves did and will have to be doing this until December. However, Wolves have more squad depth than Burnley did and have a manager and players who have already gone through this.

Wolves started the season with three draws in a row against Leicester, Manchester United and Burnley and then lost their last match 3-2 to Everton. This leaves them in 17th place above the relegation zone just on goal difference. In addition to that, they are one of only two teams along with Watford not to have won a game yet this season. Espirito Santos will be hoping that his team can come back from the international break strong and gain their first victory of the season.

Chelsea have also not had the best start to the season under Frank Lampard. After losing their first game 4-0 against United, they drew both home games against Leicester and Sheffield United and got a narrow 2-3 win against Norwich. This has left them in 11th place for the moment and they will be looking to try to close the gap to the big boys and the top 4. Lampard will also have encouragement with the way the season has started, as several of the younger players have shined most notably Mount and Abraham.

Chelsea and wolves have played each other 108 times in the past with Chelsea winning 41, Wolves winning 39 and there being 28 draws, so it is pretty close. Last season Wolves came out on top, winning their home match against Chelsea 2-1 and then the reverse fixture was a 1-1 draw.

Predicted result Wolves 1-1 Chelsea.
