Not long left until the Premier League returns!

The Premier League season is slowly approaching, and we cannot wait. One of the few negatives about the summer is that there is no club football. It is only three weeks until the first Premier Leaguegame and only two weeks until last season’s top 2, Liverpool and Manchester City come head to head in the community shield.

Last season the Premier League was so extraordinary because Liverpool and City fought it out until the last day of the season. They both kept winning matches when people thought one of them would slip away. Liverpool finished in second with 97 points, a tally that previous to this season was only bettered by City last year when they finished with 100 points. This just shows how good the two teams were and how close Liverpool came to winning their first title in nearly three decades.

There were many pivotal moments in the season for both teams, however, the major point that really stands out was the match between Manchester City and Liverpool early in the new year. It was a match that if Liverpool would have won, they would have been 10 points clear at the half way stage. This would have been a big mountain for City to climb. The main moment in the match that could have swayed it Liverpool’s was when Mane hit the post and then rebound hit Stones and was 11mm away from crossing the line. If that would have gone in it would have changed the whole match. However, City went on to win the match and cut the gap to four points, and eventually won the league. This was Liverpool’s only loss of the season.

It is not expected for both will be so ahead of the group next season, with the rivals strengthening, but they will still be the favourites. Liverpool won the Champions League last season and will be gunning to win that elusive Premier League title.
