Liverpool Chelsea preview

Liverpool host Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday. This is a very important game for both teams in respect to the title race and race for top four. Liverpool are currently two points ahead of City, albeit with a game in hand. Any slip up from Liverpool now would make it very hard for them to win the title. This is their last game against teams in the top 6 with only six matches remaining in the season. Liverpool have a very bad record at home against Chelsea, with their last home win coming in May 2012. It is also a similar position that Liverpool were in, in 2014 when they were fighting Manchester City for the title and knew a win against Chelsea would all but secure them the title. Unfortunately, for Liverpool, that game will always be remembered for Gerrard’s infamous slip where he let Ba in to score. Liverpool will be hoping that they can put in a good performance and get their first home win against Chelsea in 7 years.

Chelsea on the other hand, are also in a battle for the top 4 places. They beat West Ham on Monday to send them into third, two points ahead of Spurs in fourth, although they have a game in hand. Hazard put in a brilliant performance and scored one of the goals of the season with an incredible solo run. There are rumors that he is going to Real Madrid in the summer, but Chelsea will do everything in their power to keep hold of their prized position especially considering their looming transfer ban. Chelsea also have to still play Manchester United away which will be a must win for both teams.

Chelsea and Liverpool have played each twice already this season, with both games coming within four days of each other. The first time they played was at Anfield when Chelsea were victorious 1-2. They then played each other in the Premier League and Liverpool needed an 89th minute Sturridge equaliser to salvage a point. Both teams will be fired up for this game, however, based on Liverpool’s home form and Chelsea’s recent away form I predict Liverpool will narrowly win.

Prediction- Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea.
