Manchester United Liverpool preview

Manchester United face Liverpool on Sunday in the Premier League match of the weekend. Recently this game was voted the biggest rivalry in Britain and has produced some wonderful and intense game in the past. There is a lot riding on this match for both teams as United will want to strengthen their grip on 4th spot and make sure that Arsenal do not overtake them. Liverpool wants to regain top spot as City do not play this weekend.

The last time the two teams met in the Premier League in December, Liverpool were victorious 3-1 and were much the better side. This game led to the sacking of Mourinho and the appointment of Solskjaer which has completely transformed United. Since then United have won 8 out of 9 games in the Premier League drawing the other. They will also be full of confidence after knocking Chelsea out of the FA Cup on Monday. They did have a small blip against PSG in the Champions League where they lost 0-2 at home, however, apart from that they have been very good and will be coming into this game believing they can win it.

Liverpool on the other hand, are currently on the back on three draws out of their last four games. They have had a small loss of form and will be hoping they can put that behind them. They drew back to back games against Leicester and West Ham before beating Bournemouth 3-0 at home. This was followed by a week rest due to the FA Cup and then the Champions League match against Bayern which ended 0-0. This was a contrast to last season where Liverpool scored 18 goals in the knockout phases and it shows that Klopp’s team is different to the one of last year and focuses a lot more on the defensive side of the game now. Klopp will probably play differently against United that he did against Bayern and try to expose United’s defence. Hopefully, this game will be an exciting showing of attacking talent.
