Chelsea versus Man United FA Cup preview

Chelsea host Manchester United in the FA Cup 5th round. This is the standout match of the round and definitely will be the most exciting. Both Chelsea and United are aiming to win their managers their first piece of silverware at the club. Chelsea have the opportunity to win the EFL Cup the week after when they face City in the final but will still very much be focused on progressing from this match. United’s manager Solskjaer will want his team to put Tuesday’s defeat against PSG behind them and progress so that he has a higher chance of winning a trophy and possibly getting the manager’s position on a full-time basis.

Chelsea will be hoping that the 6-0 defeat against City last weekend will not have too big of an effect on the players coming into this game. Their defense was all over the place and with a rejuvenated United, Chelsea could be in trouble if they defend in the same manner. Sarri will hope that as it is a home match Chelsea, will have the advantage. Higuain didn’t see much of the ball against City but he was the Chelsea player that was most dangerous when he had the ball. He had a couple of good efforts saved by Ederson as well as producing a lovely flick for Pedro to go through on goal, but he was not able to finish the marvelous chance. Chelsea will need a lot more of this during the game against United.

Since Solskjaer has come in, United seem to have regained their confidence and are playing the best football they have played for a while now. With that being said, they were brought back down to Earth on Tuesday evening, when they suffered their first loss under Solskjaer with a 0-2 defeat to PSG at home. This showed that there is still a lot of work to do for United if they want to be considered one of the best teams in Europe again.

Solskjaer started his United career with 10 wins and one draw from 11, before Tuesday evening. He will be hoping that his team can bounce back from this defeat, however, with the Liverpool match just a few days later, he may decide to rest a couple of his big players. Another issue for Solskjaer is that both Martial and Lingard were injured in the game against PSG and they are major doubts for this tie. However, United will be licking their lips after seeing the way Chelsea played against City and will be coming to the match as favorites to progress.

Predicted result Chelsea 1-3 United.
