Chelsea EFL Cup final

Chelsea have made it to the EFL Cup final against Manchester City. They had to win an exciting semifinal against Tottenham to get there. The first leg ended 1-0 for Spurs after a controversial Harry Kane penalty. The second leg Chelsea started the game very well and were 2-0 at half time. But Spurs got a goal back and the game ended 2-2 on aggregate after 90 minutes. This season the football League decide to have no extra time or away goals rule so they game wen straight to penalties. Chelsea scored four penalties in a row and with Lucas and Dier missing theirs, they didn’t even need Hazard to score take the final one.

Chelsea started their EFL Cup campaign against Liverpool which was a tricky test for them. They won the game courtesy of two late goals, first from Emerson and then from Hazard. This game was followed by a goal fest first half against one of Chelsea’s former stars and Legends team, Derby which ended 3-2 for Chelsea. Derby were unlucky to lose the game as they conceded two own goals and put in a good performance away to one of the biggest clubs in England. In the quarter final, Chelsea hosted Bournemouth which they needed another late hazard goal to seal a 1-0 victory.

There has been a slight dip in form for Chelsea recently, and since the new year Chelsea have only won two games in the Premier League against Newcastle and Huddersfield, who are both fighting relegation. Their game against Huddsersfield last weekend was a sign of improvement though, where they won 5-0 with their new signing Higuain getting two goals. Chelsea face City this weekend in a warm up for their EFL Cup final match in two weeks. It will be interesting to see how this game turns out and it should give an indication of who will win the final.

Chelsea have won the competition 5 times with their last one coming in 2015 when they won the double under Mourinho. They will be hoping that they can make it 6 and give Sarri his first trophy as manager of Chelsea.
