Can Barcelona go through against Sevilla in the cup?

FC Barcelona are 5 points clear in La liga but they struggled in their last game against Sevilla in the cup. They go into the second leg on Wednesday evening having lost the first leg 2-0. This is not an ideal position to be in and if they want to go through, they will need to win the match by three goals. This is definitely possible for a team like Barcelona, however, Sevilla have been very good this season and will put up a strong fight. Sevilla know that if they score, then Barcelona need to score four against them to go through, which will be tough against Sevilla’s resilient defence.

Barcelona are in this position because of a poor first leg in Seville, where Messi and Dembele did not play with Suarez and Coutinho starting on the bench. Boateng made his first start for the club and looked out of his comfort zone and never really got going. To be fair to him it was his first game and in a new position, so it will take time for him to adapt a little. Suarez and Coutinho both came on in the 63rd minute to try to salvage the game, but neither of them could do much. Coutinho has been in a bad run of form for Barcelona, and there are rumors that Valverde is unhappy with him and wants him to leave. This is a big contrast to a year ago when he signed as Barcelona’s most expensive player with the view to replace the legendary Iniesta. Coutinho will be given until the end of the season, but if his performances do not improve Barcelona will look to move him on.

Barcelona want to win the treble every year and this season is no different. This is why Valverde will definitely field a strong squad for the clash on Wednesday starting both Suarez and Messi. They team miss a little bit of Dembele’s directness at the moment, but he is out for another week and won’t be fit in time for the match. Barcelona will definitely have to bring their “A” game if they want to progress to the Semifinal of the cup.
