Manchester City secures place in Carabao Cup final

The first Carabao Cup semi-final tie between Manchester City and Burton Albion settled the tie for Man City. The Citizens played the first match of this tie at home and won with 9-0, which is of course more than enough for the second tie.

Strong line-up

The Citizens played a very strong team filled with regular first teamers with the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Leroy Sane, David Silva and Gabriel Jesus. They were supported by a talented youngster Eric Garcia. It was Belgium superstar Kevin de Bruyne who opened the score within 5 minutes after the start of the match. This looked to be the start of a goal festival, but in the 25 minutes after the opener the 1-0 score remained intact. Gabriel Jesus scored the 2-0 in the 30th minute and the 3-0 four minutes later. Oleksandr Zinchenko Scored the 4-0 a few minutes before half time.

Second half

Everybody expected Man City to take it easy in the second half, since 4-0 was more than enough to kill the tie. Pep Guardiola however told his team they should keep pushing towards more goals. After the match he said: “It’s a sign of disrespect when we decide to take it easy. I respect every opponent and every cup we play, therefore I told my players to show the respect by keep pushing for more goals.” His half-time speech sorted the desired effect. Gabriel Jesus(2x), Phil Foden, Kule Walker and Riyad Mahrez lifted the score to 9-0.
