The Carabao Cup enters its final stages. This started Tuesday 8 January with the first semi-final leg between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. At the moment the referee blew his whistle, the assistant referee raised his flag for offside. After an interference by VAR the offside call was denied, and the penalty was giving to the Spurs. Harry Kane netted the ball from the penalty spot and brought his team a good lead in the semi-final tie.
Controversial decision
After the match both managers questioned the decision by VAR. Maurizio Sarri stated a claim that Harry Kane was definitely offside when they passed him the ball. So far, no big surprises. The biggest surprise after the match came during Mauricio Pochettino’s interviews. The Argentinian manager said after the match that he isn’t at all happy with the influence of VAR. He said: “Today it was in our advantage, but when you look at the World Cup and La Liga, you will see nobody is happy with this system.”
Carabao Cup final
The winner of this tie will play the Carabao Cup final at Wembley against either Man City or Burton Albion. The odds for Manchester City to win tonight are 1/25.
