Liverpool and Manchester United play each other at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. The two teams are having very contrasting seasons. Liverpool are flying high and currently sit at the top of the table, one point ahead of Manchester City. United on the other hand, are in 6th, 8 points behind Chelsea in fourth. United also have Conceded 26 goals in 16 games which only two fewer than they conceded all of last season, compared to Liverpool who have only conceded 6 so far this season.
Even though Liverpool are top of the league, Klopp is yet to beat united in his three years as coach of Liverpool. Another worrying stat for Liverpool is that their front three of Salah, Mane, and Firminho have not scored against United in a combined 855 minutes of football. However, after have a little dip in the early season, Salah seems to be back to his best, especially after scoring a hat-trick last weekend against Bournemouth. Liverpool have also been much stronger defensively, in fact, they haven’t conceded more than one goal in their last 19 Premier League matches, which shows how far they have come in the last year.
There has been unrest in the Man United camp. Pogba has not started the last two Premier League matches and some of their other big players such as Lukaku and Sanchez have bene poor this season. However, Mourinho knows how to win at Anfield. He actually has the best record at Anfield from any manager, winning four out of his eight games there. Mourinho’s men, lost against Valencia on Wednesday in the Champions League and missed out on the change to take top spot from Juventus. Mourinho will want his players to give a reaction but will probably play very deep and will settle for a 0-0 draw.
Both teams have a bit of a defensive injury crisis. United will be without: Smalling, Sanchez, Lindelof, Martial, Shaw, Rojo, Dalot, and Darmian. This leaves them with limited defensive options. Liverpool also are light at the back with only Lovren and Van Dijk as their only fit centre backs.
It will be a tight game with probably only one goals separating the two sides.
