Premier League title race

The Premier League title race is starting to take shape. After 12 game eight points separates Man city in first and Arsenal in fifth. However, the main three title contenders this season are Man City, Liverpool, and Chelsea. Arsenal and Tottenham have a very small chance of also competing depending on how their form continues but it is unlikely. After Man United’s display in the derby against city and based on their performances this season it is safe to say they will not be in the mix for the Premier League title come end of the season.

In all honesty, it is hard to see any team take it away from City. They just look so good this season that it will be difficult stopping them win a second league title in a row, and their 4th in seven years. Since Manchester United won the league 4 years in a row from 2006 to 2009, no team has been able to retain the title, however, this could be the year that Man City break that statistic. De Bruyne, who was arguably their best player last season, has been out injured practically the whole season. City do not look like they miss him one bit. Their squad has so much depth and quality that even losing their star player, doesn’t affect them. Watching their game against United, they made everything look so easy, especially their third goal which had a 44 pass build up.

Liverpool started the season well but have had a few performances that were not up to scratch. With that being said even when they are not playing well, they are still winning games which is something that they were not able to do in previous seasons. They are currently only two points behind city and could definitely go all the way. Salah seems to be finding form again after a slow start to the season for his standards. The one thing that Liverpool really lack is a creative midfielder that can control the game as well. You could see that against Red Star Belgrade, Liverpool were crying out for this sort of player. It remains to be seen if their two summer signings Fabinho, and Keita can fill this role.

Chelsea drew on the weekend to Everton. Hazard just came back from injury and did not look like his best self yet. Another issue for Chelsea is their strikers. Even though Morata has gotten himself a few goals recently he still does not look like a top striker that Chelsea need to win the title. However, Chelsea are the only team in Europe’s top five leagues that are unbeaten in all competitions, which is a huge achievement for Sarri. If Sarri can get his strikers scoring goals, and hazard back to full fitness then Chelsea can push Liverpool and City for the title.
