Can man City win the title again?

Manchester City currently sit at the top of the premier league level on points with Liverpool and Chelsea but ahead on goal difference. Last season City won the league by a record of 19 points beating Manchester United’s previous record of 18. City also smashed the points record of 100 points for the season. Last season they were unstoppable. This season they look just as good, however, the rivals have improved, and it seems they will not have as easy of a task as last season.

Since season 08/09 when Manchester United won four straight league titles, no team who won the premier league has been able to retain the title. However, many believe that this Man City team is so good and have so much depth in quality that they will be able to do it. Kevin De Bruyne got injured in late August and people thought that city would struggle without him. However, in actual fact city have not missed him at all and either Bernardo Silva or Gündoğan have just slipped right into his position.

Guardiola has a very well drilled team; however, they have drawn twice in the Premier League, and lost at home to Lyon in the Champions League. This shows that City are vulnerable and can be beaten. The last game City played was against Liverpool. Last season the games between City and Liverpool were explosive and great games to watch. Therefore, people were expecting more of the same. However, last season was a different story as city were so far ahead in the league. This season Liverpool were level on points and therefore had a lot more to lose. The game was a tactical masterclass from both Guardiola and Klopp, however, that made the game a lot tighter. Mahrez had a glorious chance in the 85th minute to wrap up the game with a penalty, however, he bottled it and kicked the ball into the stands.

City still are after the elusive Champions League. That does not mean that they will focus more on the Champions League than the Premier league, or any competition for that matter. However, if they get some injuries and go far in all competitions, fatigue will start to keep in. With that being said they have the strength in depth to compete on all four fronts. Looking at how Man City plays and the record of Guardiola, leads me to believe that they will win the premier league again and better the quarter final stage of that Champions League from last season.
