Kevin de Bruyne returns to City after Community Shield

The Belgium midfielder Kevin de Bruyne won’t be able to play the 2018 Community Shield final against his former team Chelsea. He is currently still enjoying his post-World Cup holiday and will return to training the day after the traditional season opener. His agent Patrick de Koster confirmed this to the Belgium Newspaper Het Belang van Limburg. Although some Man City players returned earlier to get things going again, Kevin de Bruyne has got the permission to return on Monday the 6th of August.

It has been a long and hard season for Kevin de Bruyne. He featured in 51 matches for his club and topped his season by reaching the third-place match during the World Cup 2018 in Russia. He is a player who makes a lot of kilometres during a match, so his body really needed the rest. It’s unlikely the Belgium star will start in the start of the Premier League against Arsenal. He really needs his time to get back in form, one week of training isn’t enough to be ready for playing the Premier League.

De Bruyne joins his team at Wembley

Although he isn’t ready to play in the Community Shield, Kevin de Bruyne will join his team at Wembley for the Community Shield. The team spirit was a key factor in Man City’s success season last year. Therefore, he believes it’s important that he joins his teammates at Wembley for the 2018 Community Shield match. There is a big chance some of the Man City youngsters will get the opportunity to play in the match. It will be very interesting to see how they will cope with the pressure of playing for silverware with the big guys. It can kick-start their career when they are able to give a good display in this match.
