Chelsea’s Community Shield preparations in danger

It isn’t the most unexpected news in the world of football, but the timing could have been a lot better. Chelsea Football Club sacked their manager Antonio Conte roughly three and a half weeks before the Community Shield. The club hasn’t officially announced it yet, but players like Cesc Fabrages already came out on Twitter to thank their manager.

The big question in this matter is why they waited so long to sack him. Everybody around the Premier League knew they wanted to get rid of him at the end of last season. Chelsea didn’t do anything at that time and Antonio Conte even started the pre-season training with his team. Now, 24 days before the Blues play the Community Shield match against Manchester City, he is sacked.

New Chelsea manager

Since the team already started pre-season, the club is in a rush to sign a new manager. It will be a matter of time before Conte’s fellow countryman Maurizio Sarri will be announced as the new Chelsea manager. The former Napoli manager is a free agent since he decided to leave Napoli at the end of last season. The big question will be if Sarri has enough time to prepare his team for the Community Shield. The first thing he will do is to analyse the squad he has and tell the board which players he thinks he needs to improve the team. After this, he will go and prepare his team in this short amount of time for his first chance to win a trophy with Chelsea. He needs to do that without Thibaut Courtois, N’Golo Kante, Oliver Giroud, Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard, Michy Batshuayi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek who are all still active in Russia for the World Cup.
