Match Details
Arsenal vs Newcastle United takes place on Saturday, January 23, 2027 at the Emirates Stadium. The kick-off time and UK broadcast details for this fixture are still to be confirmed by the Premier League.
Emirates Stadium
The Emirates Stadium has been Arsenal's home since 2006, when the club moved from the iconic Highbury. With a capacity of 60,704, it ranks as one of the largest club grounds in England. The stadium has become a fortress for Arsenal in recent seasons, particularly against Newcastle — the Gunners have not lost a Premier League home game to the Magpies since a 1-0 defeat to an Andy Carroll header in November 2010, winning the vast majority since.
Head-to-Head Record
This fixture dates back to 1893, when both clubs operated under different names — Woolwich Arsenal and Newcastle United first met in Division Two. The sides have met close to 200 times in competitive football, with Arsenal holding the historical edge. The rivalry has produced three FA Cup finals: Arsenal won 2-0 in 1998 with goals from Marc Overmars and Nicolas Anelka, while Newcastle prevailed 1-0 in 1952 and 2-1 in the controversial 1932 final, where their equaliser appeared to cross the byline before being converted.
Last Meeting: Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle United (April 25, 2026)
The most recent meeting, at the Emirates Stadium in April 2026, was settled by a single moment of brilliance. Eberechi Eze curled a stunning effort into the top corner from a cleverly worked corner routine inside the opening ten minutes — Arsenal's record-breaking 17th goal from a corner in the Premier League that season. Newcastle pushed back, with David Raya called into action to deny Sandro Tonali, but the Gunners held firm to claim a 1-0 win and return to the top of the table. It was a typically resilient home performance on the way to the title.
Arsenal 2026-2027 Season
Arsenal go into this fixture as reigning Premier League champions. Under Mikel Arteta — named Premier League Manager of the Season — the Gunners ended a 22-year wait for the title in 2025/26, their first since the Invincibles of 2003-04, topping the table with the league's best defensive record after three consecutive runner-up finishes. They also reached the Champions League final for the first time in two decades, losing narrowly to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties, and finished as EFL Cup runners-up. The title-winning core remains the spine of the team: Bukayo Saka, captain Martin Ødegaard, William Saliba, Declan Rice, Gabriel Magalhães and striker Viktor Gyökeres, supported by the likes of Martin Zubimendi, Piero Hincapié and Eberechi Eze. With the squad chasing honours at home and in Europe, every home fixture is a chance to keep their 2026-2027 campaign on track.
Newcastle 2026-2027 Season
Eddie Howe remains in charge for 2026-2027 after the ownership kept faith despite a frustrating 2025/26 campaign that ended in a disappointing 12th-place finish — well below expectations for a club with Champions League ambitions. The summer 2025 departure of Alexander Isak to Liverpool left a void that Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa were brought in to fill, and Howe will be looking for far greater consistency from a side built around Bruno Guimarães, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and goalkeeper Nick Pope. With no European football to juggle this season, Newcastle have few excuses as they look to climb back towards the European places and build on the Carabao Cup success that ended their long trophy drought.
