Match Details
Arsenal v Chelsea takes place on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at Emirates Stadium. The kick-off time and UK broadcast details for this fixture are still to be confirmed by the Premier League.
Emirates Stadium
Emirates Stadium has been Arsenal’s home ground since 2006, when they moved from Highbury after 93 years and countless successes at the stadium. Based in North London, Emirates Stadium is one of the Premier League’s largest and most impressive grounds, holding 60,704 fans at full capacity. Surrounded by statues of Arsenal legends like Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Tony Adams, along with the relocated Highbury clock, you can really feel the history of the club. If you’re travelling to the stadium from London, it’s incredibly easy to get to via public transport. The best option is probably to get the Picadilly line to Arsenal tube station, which is then just a very short walk from the stadium. However, on matchdays, Arsenal tube station can get quite busy, so if you’d prefer to avoid the rush of supporters, you could opt to get the Picadilly or Victoria line to Finsbury Park tube station, and take a 20 minute walk from there.
Head-to-Head Record
Everyone knows that this is one of English football’s biggest rivalries, with 210 meetings since 1907. Of those 210 meetings, Arsenal have won 86 times compared to Chelsea’s slightly lesser 66, while there have been 62 draws between the two sides. In terms of just Premier League encounters, Arsenal also lead the way on this metric with 27 compared to Chelsea’s 20. On top of this, Arsenal have also dominated the fixture in recent seasons, which has seen them surpass Chelsea as the most dominant team in London and led them to last season’s Premier League trophy. This season, however, Chelsea have spent big in the transfer window in the hope of closing the gap to their London rivals, which they will be hoping will be on full display at this weekend’s game.
Last Meeting: Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea (March 1, 2026)
The last meeting between Arsenal and Chelsea was in March 2026 and it saw the Gunners do enough to secure the points in a hard fought match. William Saliba’s header saw the hosts take the lead before a piero Hicapie own goal meant the scores were level at half-time. However in the second half, Jurrien Timber’s header put the Gunners in front again, before a Chelsea red card made life even more difficult for the Blues. Chelsea ushed for an equaliser but Arsenal did enough to secure the three points, which were vital for their push for the title.
Arsenal 2026-2027 Season
Arsenal head into the 2026-2027 campaign as reigning Premier League champions. With Mikel Arteta at the helm, the Gunners ended their 22 year wait for the Premier League title. Despite being the best team in the league last season, Arsenal have once again spent big in the summer transfer window, securing the likes of Ezri Konsa and Bruno Guimarães from Aston Villa and Newcastle United respectively. Adding this level of quality to a side that won the Premier League and reached the Champions League final last season means they will have to be considered favourites for the Premier League title again. As a result, it’s up to Mikel Arteta and his side to prove they are able to sustain this level of success for years to come.
Chelsea 2026-2027 Season
Chelsea are undoubtedly a team in transition currently, but having spent big in the summer transfer window, their squad looks a lot healthier than it has in recent years. Signing the likes of Morgan Rogers, Danny Welbeck, and Emiliano Martinez, means their team now has plenty of Premier League experience, which is something the Blues have struggled with over the years. Often they have chosen to stockpile younger talents for profit later down the line, but that has consistently lead to minimal success. With Xabi Alonso now at the wheel, it will be interesting to see whether this new approach can change their fortunes this campaign. Chelsea have started well in their opening two games, with entertaining wins over Fulham and Brighton, but this game against Arsenal will be the truest test on how far they’ve come in preseason.
