The citizens of beautiful Lille, situated on the banks of Deûle River, are ardent supporters of football. Lille Olympique Sporting Club (LOSC) which was formed in 1944 following a merger of SC Fives and Olympique Lillois is a regular participant in France Ligue 1. The stadium established in 2012 has a capacity in excess of 50,000. Before the opening of this stadium Stade Grimonprez-Jooris happened to be the home of LOSC. This stadium was closed during the early part of last decade.
