The citizens of beautiful Lille, situated on the banks of Deûle River, are ardent supporters of football. Lille Olympique Sporting Club (LOSC) which was formed in 1944 following a merger of SC Fives and Olympique Lillois is a regular participant in France Ligue 1. Lille football tickets are greedily collected by local people as well as the visiting football lovers from outside the city who do not wish to miss seeing the action live from the stands. LOSC has won three league and six Coupe de France titles. Stade Pierre-Mauroy is the place where football matches in Lille are held often. The stadium established in 2012 has a capacity in excess of 50,000. Before the opening of this stadium Stade Grimonprez-Jooris happened to be the home of LOSC.
