Portugal faces Sweden and France meets Ukraine in World Cup

France finished second in Group I, behind Spain, this season. France, previous World Cup winners (1998) and finalists in the 2006 World Cup, are off to visit Ukraine to continue their bid for qualification. Ukraine were the runners-up of Group H, falling behind England. Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo need to defeat rival Sweden and Ibrahimovic in the upcoming playoff if they are to get a place in the Brazil World Cup next year. The sides were selected to play against each other after losing out on automatic qualification earlier this year and will play in Zurich, the home of FIFA, to gain their World Cup place. Sweden will be travelling to Lisbon to play in the first leg on Friday 15th of November, with the return match being played in Stockholm just four days later. Iceland, the lowest ranking of the eight teams in the playoffs with a 46 world rank, are to host the first leg match against Croatia. The draw in Zurich also established that Romania will face Greece in another European play-off. All play-offs are scheduled to take place on Friday 15th of November and Monday 19th November.
